Revenue Collects Offset Claims on Behalf of Many State Agencies

Individual income tax refunds garnished to satisfy debts owed to agencies

BATON ROUGE - During calendar year 2000, the Department of Revenue collected more than $7.8 million through “offset claims” filed by state and local agencies that are specifically authorized by state statutes. The claims are collected through garnishment of an individual’s income tax refund.
