Iberville parish man arrested for felony tax fraud
December 20, 2024
BATON ROUGE – An Iberville Parish man faces felony charges for allegedly defrauding Louisiana taxpayers of more than $14,000.
Investigators with the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) say Glenn T. Smith, Jr. (Booking Photo), of Maringouin, submitted a check with non-sufficient funds to the department as an overpayment for tax debts. The overpayment was then listed as a credit on his tax account, which generated an illegitimate refund payment of $14,421.
Once LDR discovered through its bank that Smith’s check was NSF, the agency secured an arrest warrant for him. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Dec. 19, 2024, on felony charges of theft and filing false public records.
Smith is the 77th person arrested under a joint anti-tax fraud initiative of the Louisiana Department of Revenue and the state attorney general’s office.
