Do your auditors review only Louisiana tax returns during a state tax audit?

The Louisiana income tax return is largely based on the federal income tax return. You should be prepared to provide a copy of the relevant filed federal tax return to the auditor. The auditor will examine your federal tax return for any necessary adjustments. Once the examination of the federal tax return is complete, the Louisiana tax return will be adjusted based on the federal tax return revisions. For example, if you failed to report income on the federal return, your Louisiana tax return will be adjusted to include this income. (Question and answer last reviewed June 24, 2024)
