If Filed Online (Recommended)

  • Electronic returns are typically processed within up to 4 weeks.

If Filed by Paper

Processing takes longer due to mail handling, sorting, and manual data entry before processing can begin.

  • Paper returns are typically processed within up to 8 weeks.

Once verified, your refund is approved and prepared for issuance.

Refunds are generally issued:

  • 4 weeks after filing online
  • 8 weeks after filing by paper

Important Notes

  • Direct Deposit refunds are sent to the bank account listed on your return. Some banks may take up to 3 business days after transmission to post funds.
  • First-time filers will receive refunds by paper check only.
  • Refund delivery method cannot be changed after filing.
  • Amended returns follow the same general timeline.
  • These timeframes apply to most error-free returns; delays may occur.
  • Calling the Louisiana Department of Revenue will not speed up your refund.
