Client Authorization & Power of Attorney

Authorize Someone to Represent You Before the Louisiana Department of Revenue

Whether you are a taxpayer authorizing a representative or a tax professional representing a client, this page explains how to submit, update, or revoke a Louisiana tax Power of Attorney (POA).

A valid Power of Attorney allows the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) to discuss confidential tax matters with your authorized representative and permits the representative to act on your behalf within the authority you have granted.

Need to authorize a representative?

Submit a new Power of Attorney, update an existing authorization, or revoke a previously granted POA.

What Can an Authorized Representative Do?

Depending on the authority granted by the taxpayer, an authorized representative may:

  • Discuss confidential tax matters with LDR
  • Receive tax information and notices (when authorized)
  • Respond to department requests
  • Submit documents
  • Request account information
  • Represent taxpayers during audits
  • Represent taxpayers during collections
  • Request payment arrangements, when authorized
  • Assist with resolving tax account issues

What Doesn't a Power of Attorney Allow?

A Power of Attorney does not automatically authorize a representative to:

  • Access all tax accounts
  • Access all tax years
  • Perform actions outside the authority granted
  • Represent taxpayers who have not provided authorization
  • Receive confidential information beyond the authorized scope

Authorization is limited to the tax types, tax periods, and authority identified on the Power of Attorney.

Submit, Update, or Revoke a Power of Attorney

Use the Louisiana Power of Attorney process to authorize a new representative, update an existing authorization, or revoke a previously granted Power of Attorney. Be sure to include all required taxpayer, representative, tax type, and tax period information to help avoid processing delays.
