Business Tip

Don't assume another agency updates LDR for you.

Updating your records with the Louisiana Secretary of State, the IRS, the U.S. Postal Service, or another agency does not automatically update your business tax account with the Louisiana Department of Revenue. Always update your information directly with LDR.

Frequently-Asked Questions

How do I update my business information?

The fastest and easiest way is through LaTAP.

If you are unable to complete the update online, use the appropriate LDR form or contact the Department for assistance.

I changed my business phone number or email address.

Keep your contact information current to ensure LDR can reach you if questions arise regarding your tax account.

I closed my business.

Businesses that cease operations should notify LDR promptly, file any required final tax returns, and request closure of applicable tax accounts.

I closed one of my business locations.

Notify LDR as soon as possible so the appropriate location records can be updated and any applicable tax accounts can be reviewed.

I opened another location. Do I need to tell LDR?

Yes.

Opening a new business location may require updates to your tax account, including location registrations, sales tax accounts, or other tax registrations.

I sold my business.

If ownership of your business changes, notify LDR immediately. Depending on the circumstances, you may need to close existing tax accounts and establish new registrations.

I updated my address with the Secretary of State. Do I still need to notify LDR?

Yes.

The Louisiana Secretary of State and the Louisiana Department of Revenue maintain separate records.

Updating your address with:

  • The Secretary of State

  • The IRS

  • The U.S. Postal Service

  • The Office of Motor Vehicles

  • Your parish or local licensing agency

does not automatically update your tax account with LDR.

My business changed its name. What should I do?

If your legal business name or trade name (DBA) changes, notify LDR as soon as possible. Additional documentation may be required depending on the type of change.

My business moved. Do I need to notify LDR?

Yes. If your business mailing address or physical location changes, update your records with LDR as soon as possible. Keeping your address current helps ensure you receive important tax notices, refund checks, tax clearance letters, and other correspondence without interruption.

Why does LDR encourage businesses to use a USPS-recognized mailing address?

Using a mailing address recognized by the United States Postal Service (USPS) helps ensure that refunds, tax clearance letters, notices, and other official correspondence are delivered promptly and accurately.
