If you are allowed to mail a return or payment and choose to do so:

  • Mail early — several days before the due date

  • If mailing close to the deadline:

    • Go inside the post office

    • Request a manual postmark

    • Use certified or registered mail

    • Or obtain a certificate of mailing

Keep all mailing receipts for your records.
