State tax relief available for businesses affected by severe weather and power outages

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Revenue is granting an automatic tax filing and payment extension to businesses in 21 Louisiana parishes affected by severe weather and power outages this month.

The extension is available to businesses whose primary locations, critical tax records or paid tax preparers are in parishes within the State of Emergency Declaration following severe weather and power outages June 14-16, 2023. The declared emergency area for Louisiana includes Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Caldwell, Claiborne, DeSoto, East Carroll, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Red River, Richland, Tensas, Union, Webster, West Carroll and Winn parishes.

The extension applies to state sales, severance, excise and withholding tax returns and payments due on or after June 14, 2023, and on or before July 15, 2023. The extended due date is July 20, 2023. The extension is automatic. No late filing penalties, late payment penalties or interest will apply to eligible returns and payments submitted by the extended deadline.
