Updated June 08, 2026

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana homeowners have until June 30, 2026, to apply for a state tax credit for roof upgrades certified in 2025 to withstand hurricanes, high winds and other severe weather events.

The Louisiana FORTIFIED Roof Tax Credit program provides a state income tax credit for 100% of qualified expenses for roofs upgraded to standards established by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS).

The current application period, Jan. 1, 2026, through June 30, 2026, is for roof upgrades certified by IBHS in 2025. Homeowners whose upgraded roofs receive certification this year can apply for the credit through the Louisiana Taxpayer Access Point (LaTAP) portal starting Jan. 1, 2027.

To qualify for the tax credit:

  • The property must be the taxpayer’s primary residence;
  • The property cannot be a condominium, mobile home or new-construction home;
  • The roof must be certified by IBHS as meeting or exceeding the FORTIFIED roof standard; and
  • The homeowner cannot have received a Louisiana Fortify Homes Program grant administered by the Louisiana Department of Insurance

The amount of the credit is up to $10,000 per residence. Credits are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The program has an annual cap of $10 million.
