New Orleans tax preparer arrested for tax fraud
Updated July 01, 2026
BATON ROUGE – A New Orleans tax preparer faces multiple felony charges for a scheme to steal tens of thousands of dollars in state income tax refunds.
Investigators with the Louisiana Department of Revenue’s Criminal Investigations Division say Jasmine Iriel Dumas (booking photo) filed state income tax returns using fabricated W-2 withholding information to increase refunds owed to her clients. The increased refunds also increased the commissions that Dumas paid herself for filing the returns.
In one case, LDR investigators flagged a suspicious return that included a W-2 form for 2022, a year the client was not employed. The client told investigators he had never worked for the company in question and had not provided Dumas with information claiming he had.
The fraudulent returns Dumas submitted caused LDR to issue $6,569 in illegitimate refunds. The investigation prevented the issuing of an additional $59,909 in fraudulent refunds.
Dumas was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on June 30, 2026, on charges of principal to filing or maintaining false public records, principal to theft and principal to attempted theft.
Dumas is the 81st person arrested under a joint anti-tax fraud initiative of the Louisiana Department of Revenue and the state attorney general’s office.
