How can I find out information about my pay check garnishment?

When a taxpayer fails to pay any tax, penalty, or interest assessed by the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR), Louisiana Revised Statute 47:1569 authorizes the Secretary to enforce collection of the debt. Under Louisiana Revised Statute 47:1570, the Secretary is authorized to levy upon and seize a taxpayer’s property and wages as part of the Department’s enforcement authority to satisfy any assessment of tax, penalty, or interest due.

If you owe amounts to LDR that are subject to enforcement action, the law authorizes LDR to garnish up to 25 percent of your wages. A notice has been issued to your employer identifying the amount owed and the Tax Officer assigned to your case.

If you have questions or wish to verify your liability, please contact an agent with the Louisiana Department of Revenue at [email protected], or by phone at (855) 307-3893.
